It Finally Happened… it looks like I am a senior citizen!
Well, it finally happened and I am not quite sure how I am feeling about it. Last week after we had lunch, I decided to go to the grocery store and pick up a can of my favorite vanilla coffee (it is just one of those little pleasures I try to indulge in). Anyway, as I am standing in line to check out, I overhear the clerk at the register talking to the man in front of me. She was discussing her personal vitamin regimen and mineral cocktail as she strives toward regaining the energy and strength of her younger days. I don’t know how old she was, but I think it is safe to say that she is dancing somewhere on the same dance floor as us. When it was my turn, she then engaged me in conversation about thinking young and not letting age define what you do. Ok, so far, so good. After she added up my purchases (of course, I had to pick up a few other things), she offered me the senior citizen discount. Yes, you heard it here, the SENIOR CITIZEN DISCOUNT. I must have looked like a deer in headlights. Senior Citizen Discount!!!! Are you kidding me? Do I really look that old? I didn’t know what to say to her. Do I take the discount or do I engage my pride and defend my youthful perception of myself? Well… as it turns out, I didn’t have to make that decision. The clerk must have seen the look on my face and graciously said, “That’s ok… just take the discount”.
Has this ever happened to you? Would love to hear from other women on how they dealt with their first senior citizen discount offer.
